The name Phulay is Kashmiri. It means the moment a tree blossoms before bearing fruit — the point just before something becomes what it was always meant to be.
Kashmir's pashmina and sozni embroidery are among the most imitated crafts in the world. The real thing takes weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years. What is sold in its name often takes hours. Most buyers have no way of knowing the difference — and no way of holding the seller accountable.

Every Phulay shawl is made by a single artisan, from the first thread to the last. Every shawl is fibre-tested by an accredited laboratory. The artisan's name and the test certificate come inside the box.

Mehraan Mustafa was born and raised in Srinagar, Kashmir. His family has practiced sozni embroidery for over a hundred years. He grew up watching it — in the hands of the artisans around him, in the work that passed through his household, in the craft that the people of this city have carried for five centuries.
Phulay is what he built when he decided the world should know what the craft is actually worth.
